The manual describes LISP, a formal mathematical language. LISP differs from most programming languages in three important ways. The first way is in the nature of the data. In the LISP language, all data are in the form of symbolic expressions usually referred to as S-expressions, of indefinite length, and which have a branching tree-type of structure, so that significant subexpressions can be readily isolated. In the LISP system, the bulk of the available memory is used for storing S-expressions in the form of list structures. The second distinction is that the LISP language is the source language itself which specifies in what way the S-expressions are to be processed. Third, LISP can interpret and execute programs written in the form of S-expressions. Thus, like machine language, and unlike most other high level languages, it can be used to generate programs for further executions.

Описание
This book shows software developers the powerful set of tools (CLOS) available for developing object-oriented programs in Common Lisp. The advantages of using CLOS to design, develop, maintain, and extend complex programs are many: it allows for modular implementation; programs more closely resemble what they model; programs are conveniently extensible; and CLOS defines conventions that will be shared across the Common Lisp community. CLOS has been adopted as part of Common Lisp by the X3J13 committee, which is working on creating the ANSI Standard Common Lisp. Common Lisp programmers can use this book to start developing object-oriented programs in Common Lisp as quickly as possible. Readers who are not familiar with Common Lisp can discover from this book the major themes of object-oriented programming.

Those dark days are finally over—Land of Lisp brings the power of functional programming to the people! With his brilliantly quirky comics and out-of-this-world games, longtime Lisper Conrad Barski teaches you the mysteries of Common Lisp. You'll start with the basics, like list manipulation, I/O, and recursion, then move on to more complex topics like macros, higher order programming, and domain-specific languages. Then, when your brain overheats, you can kick back with an action-packed comic book interlude!Along the way you'll create (and play) games like Wizard Adventure, a text adventure with a whiskey-soaked twist, and Grand Theft Wumpus, the most violent version of Hunt the Wumpus the world has ever seen. You'll learn to:Master the quirks of Lisp's syntax and semanticsWrite concise and elegant functional programsUse macros, create domain-specific languages, and learn other advanced Lisp techniquesCreate your own web server, and use it to play browser-based gamesPut your Lisp skills to the test by writing brain-melting games like Dice of Doom and Orc BattleWith Land of Lisp, the power of functional programming is yours to wield.

This book takes a fairly rigorous, hands-on, and abstraction-based approach to teaching the basics of programming and data structures, using Scheme as the language of implementation. The authors feel strongly that since computer scientists not only write programs but also prove theorems and analyze algorithms, this book should provide first-year students the opportunity to do these things as well, and experience first hand how computer scientists think. In addition, students learn a variety of programming models (called "paradigms"), including both assembly-language and object-oriented programming (OOP). Although most of the book uses Scheme, Java is introduced at the end as a second language to demonstrate concepts of OOP and concurrent programming.

In this greatly expanded edition of the defacto standard, you'll learn about the nearly 200 changes already made since original publication - and find out about gray areas likely to be revised later. Written by the Vice-Chairman of X3J13 (the ANSI committee responsible for the standardization of Common Lisp) and co-developer of the language itself, the new edition contains the entire text of the first edition plus six completely new chapters.

The text uses a tutorial style that focuses on learning by interaction and experimentation. The text also thoroughly covers programming in Pure LISP before programming in Imperative LISP so that students get used to recursive programming. It gives an ordered presentation of Commom LISP - for example, it introduces packages simultaneously with symbols for easier assimilation and provides extensive example interactions with LISP to illustrate material being taught. The book devotes attention to style and debugging to familiarize students with realistic situations and helps novices recognize error messages and what they mean through intentional keyboard errors.

This book is intended to be a practical guide for using RDF data in information processing, linked data, and semantic web applications using both the AllegroGraph product and the Sesame open source project. While AllegroGraph itself is written in Common Lisp, this book is primarily written for programmers using either Java or other JVM languages like Scala, Clojure, and JRuby.

Описание:
Computers, and the software applications that power them, permeate every facet of our daily lives. From groceries to airline reservations to dental appointments, our reliance on technology is allencompassing.
And, we want more. Every day, our expectations of technology and software increase:
• smaller cell phones that surf the net
• better search engines that generate information we actually want
• voice-activated laptops
• cars that know exactly where to go
The list is endless. Unfortunately, there is not an endless supply of programmers and developers to satisfy our insatiable appetites for new features and gadgets. "Cheap talent” to help complete
the "grunt work” of an application no longer exists. Further, the days of unlimited funding are over.Investors want to see results, fast. Every day, hundreds of magazine and on-line articles focus on the time and people resources needed to support future technological expectations. Common Lisp (CL) is one of the few languages and development options that can meet these challenges. Powerful, flexible, changeable on the fly — increasingly, CL is playing a leading role in areas with complex problem-solving demands. Engineers in the fields of bioinformatics, scheduling, data mining, document management, B2B, and E-commerce have all turned to CL to complete their
applications on time and within budget. But CL is no longer just appropriate for the most complex problems. Applications of modest complexity, but with demanding needs for fast development cycles and customization, are also ideal candidates for CL. Other languages have tried to mimic CL, with limited success. Perl, Python, Java, C++, C# — they all incorporate some of the features that give Lisp its power, but their implementations tend to be brittle.
The purpose of this book is to showcase the features that make CL so much better than these imitators, and to give you a "quick-start” guide for using Common Lisp as a development environment. If you are an experienced programmer in languages other than Lisp, this guide gives you all
the tools you need to begin writing Lisp applications. If you’ve had some exposure to Lisp in the past, this guide will help refresh those memories and shed some new light on CL for you. But be careful, Lisp can be addicting! This is why many Fortune 500 companies will use nothing else on their 24/7, cutting-edge, mission-critical applications. After reading this book, trying our
software, and experiencing a 3 to 10 times increase in productivity, we believe you will feel the same way.

This book provides an excellent introduction to Common Lisp. In addition to chapters covering the basic language concepts, there are sections discussing the Common Lisp object system (CLOS) and speed considerations in Lisp. Three fair-sized examples of nontrivial Lisp projects are also included. The book's clear and engaging format explains complicated constructs simply. This format makes ANSI Common Lispaccessible to a general audience--even those who have never programmed before. The book also provides an excellent perspective on the value of using Lisp.
